If you build it, they will come. We may not have had Shoeless Joe Jackson and an onslaught of dead baseball players show up but I still think it’s safe to say that the inaugural Canadian Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics was a huge success.
It all started back in 2014 with the National Acro Cup Invitational. Each year, hosted by Oakville Gymnastics Club, the event continued to grow and attract more acrobats from across the country and in more recent years, even from the United States.
This year, the event shifted gears as Gymnastics Canada sanctioned it as the official Canadian Championships, validating all the years of hard work that event organizers, coaches, judges, athletes, and members of the acro community have put into the development of the sport.
With approximately 185 gymnasts in attendance from clubs from Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta, the first-ever Canadian champions in acrobatic gymnastics were crowned. Alongside the Canadian Championships, OGC hosted the 2019 Oakville Friendship Cup where JO level 5 and 6 athletes also had the opportunity to compete.
Congratulations to all of our athletes and thank you to the local organizing committee and all of the individuals that contributed so much to make this event not only possible, but such a huge success.
