Congratulations to the Oakville Gymnastics Club Tumblers who competed at the 2017 Canadian Championships for Trampoline Gymnastics in Oshawa July 14th to 15th.
Top Oakville finish went to Ben Rybka who captured an individual Silver in the Level 6 Men’s Tumbling division and a Gold with Team Ontario in the Team Tumbling competition. Emily Harrison captured individual Silver in the Women’s Level 6 division followed by her team mate Helen Dong who captured the Bronze medal for Ontario and Oakville.
The OGC Team of Emily Harrison, Helen Dong, Ben Rykba, Elizabeth Karam and Emma Chau represented Oakville with class and strong performances on the tumbling strip. Elizabeth Place 8th after struggling with landing in the preliminary round and Emma Chau moved up to 5th place after a strong final round. Both Elizabeth and Emma put in strong performances in the Level 6 Women’s Tumbling division but were edged out by their younger teammates.Coaches Niki and Don were really impressed by the OGC tumblers who delivered great tumbling passes at the 2017 Canadian Championships.
Team Ontario was one of it’s largest in years with many great Trampoline & Tumbling athletes from all over the province competing for medals and hoping to qualify to the World and World Age Championships this fall in Bulgaria.Durham College in Oshawa provided a great set up for the 2017 Canadian Championships for Trampoline Gymnastics. Athletes from Australia were invited as guests to participate in the Canadian Championships on Trampoline & Double Mini Trampoline. Two time Olympic Gold Medalist, Rosie McClennon came back to compete for the first time since winning Gold in Rio. Three time Olympic Medalist and four time Olympian, Karen Cockburn officially retired during the 2017 Canadian Championships with a beautiful tribute prepared by Gymnastics Canada remembering her legacy of excellence.
